Mechanics is the study of motion with cause. Another way of saying this is mechanics is the study of forces and the consequences of those forces. No object can change it's velocity without a net external force. Mechanics gives us the tools we need to understand how net forces acting on an object produce a certain motion (or lack there of). 

The OpenStax College Physics textbook will be used extensively for the Mechanics section of this course, while the "book" is online and its most important sections will be linked throughout BoxSand feel free to download the pdf version here. The important chapters are 4-6.
