Fall 2019 - Spring 2020 LAs and SI Leaders
A key part of our instructional staff is our Learning Assistants and Supplemental Instructors. These undergrad students help facilitate learning in the classroom as well hold study session. They are the perfect resource when you have a question about how the class works or need help on your physics.
Alyssa Benedict | Junior | Psychology
Hi everyone! My name is Ally and I’m a junior studying Psychology and plan on attending medical school after graduating. I’ve always wanted to be a surgeon, but since being a scribe in the ER, I have really come to love emergency medicine. I played volleyball up until my second year of college so health, wellness, and exercise are a huge part of my life. Reading and cooking are some of my favorite things to do. If you have any book or recipe recommendations, send them my way! PH20X is easily the most time-consuming and challenging class I have taken thus far, but honestly, the most rewarding class to do well on (and finish!). Also, enjoy this pic of my perfect pup, Argo :)
Ashley Francis | Junior | BioHealth Sciences
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I am a third-year student studying BioHealth Sciences with an option in pre-medicine. In the future, I hope to attend medical school and eventually practice family medicine. Last year, I found PH 20X to be challenging but extremely rewarding. The support for students taking the course is amazing, and I am so excited to be able to provide extra support for students this year. Outside of class, I love to eat good food, travel and hang out with my hamster.
Brooke Frey | Senior | Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
What's up guys! My name is Brooke, I am a senior studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a pre-medicine focus and a minor in Spanish. After graduation, I plan on attending medical school to pursue a career in dermatology, family practice, or emergency medicine. I am from Bend, Oregon and love to read, play piano, go on runs, and spend all my money on concerts. Teaching is one of my favorite activities and I cannot wait to get to know all of you!
Claire Ciabattari | Senior | BioHealth Sciences
Heyo my name is Claire and I’m a senior studying science to become a doctor one day with a double minor in Spanish and Chemistry. I am from California so hit me up if you’re from the Bay Area and we can talk favorite restaurants! I love traveling, listening to music, finding yummy restaurants, working out or hanging out with my fellow SafeRide employees (shoutout)! I am a huge science gal and enjoy learning about the human body and how it works. My love for Physics surprised me and I hope to pass on this appreciation to you all! I think learning how to learn is really important and this class does an awesome job at teaching you how! I can’t wait to get to know you!
Cora White | Senior | Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Hey everyone! I’m Cora and I am a senior studying biochemistry and molecular biology. This is my second year working as a learning assistant for physics. It’s great to be back! I’m a native Oregonian but I grew up in a small town on the dry side of the mountains. After graduation, I plan on taking a couple of gap years to work and travel before heading off to medical school.
David Lehrburger | Senior | Biology
Hi all! My name is David Lehrburger, and I will be the Ecampus Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader hosting the AsyncSync study sessions this year! I am an Oregon native, and consequently, love to spend my time hiking, camping, and climbing whenever I get the chance! For the past two years, I have worked as an SI leader for the physics 20X series, but this is my first time stepping into the virtual classroom to provide additional help and practice opportunities for Ecampus students, and I couldn't be more excited! I look forward to getting to know you and working with you all this year!!
Dhalia Aparicio-Cruz | Senior | Biology
Hello! My name is Dhalia and I am from Eugene, Oregon. Despite being known as "Track Town, USA", I do not like running. I'd much rather dance!! I am finishing my final year in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and an option in Pre-medicine. I hope to study General Surgery and be able to practice as a Doctor without Borders. I found Physics SUPER challenging, but certainly worth it as this course taught me how to effectively learn, much better than any other class I have taken at OSU. I am studying for my MCAT right now so if any of you want advice on how to best utilize your undergrad to aid you in your studies, hit me up! I am so excited to meet you all and aid you in journey to discovering your love of learning!
Dustin Treece | Senior | Physics
My name is Dustin Treece. Teaching math and science has been the most fulfilling experience of my life. I am a physics major, aspiring science educator, and have been a professional tutor for almost 5 years. I love helping people and inspiring confidence in others. In my spare time, I like to write songs, play guitar, and design board and card games!

In what little free time I have I try to spend it outside of my house in someway or you can find me making Synthwave music. I love traveling and learning new tid bits of information, ask me about my travels. Let's all have a great year!
Jenna Bruce | Senior | BioHealth Sciences
Hi, y'all! I'm a senior majoring in BioHealth Sciences with a focus in medicine. My hopes are to get into medical school to pursue my goal of becoming an OB/GYN. Oliver Graumann| Junior | Microbiology
Hey, my name is Oliver and I’m looking forward to being on of your LAs for the next year. I grew up right outside of Portland, which for me has translated to an enjoyment of the outdoors (when given the opportunity). I am a Junior microbiology major, minoring in chemistry and business, with the intention of getting into dental school within the next couple of years. Physics was definitely something I feared going into the class, but I was fortunately able to find the challenge fulfilling, and helpful for thinking about other science topics (especially chemistry). I hope you might find the same!
Owen Welch | Senior | Environmental Science
Hi, my name is Owen Welch, I am from Northeast Portland and am currently a senior majoring in environmental science with an option in policy and economics. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed physics and how much it applied to the world around me. Outside of school I really enjoy backpacking and scrambling. A lot of my free time is spent hiking around northern California where I used to work as a backpacking guide at a summer camp. I also play a lot of ultimate frisbee with the team here at OSU.
Sara Kim | Senior | BioHealth Sciences
Hello everyone! My name is Sara and I am a 4th-year student studying BioHealth Sciences with an option in Pre-Pharmacy. Although I have a background in science, I hope to work with other people in public policy and perhaps humanitarian work. I find physics to be incredibly challenging but also very rewarding and fascinating and I hope to bring that enthusiasm to the classroom. On my free time, I like to make and experiment with different flavors of bubble tea. I hope that I get to learn more about you all and have an amazing year!
